CURRENT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS BELOWGeneral Requests - Upon request, Planned Parenthood will provide speakers or programs to community and/or school organizations. Planned Parenthood also participates with other organizations in presenting educational materials at health fair, festivals, or other community events. Below are links that provide details of our educational programs. Educational Program Descriptions This is a traveling photo/essay exhibit focusing on teen parents. The exhibit is currently on display at Club Illuminati and the North Branch YMCA. We will move the exhibit to 2 new locations during the coming year. We will be adding 3 boys' stories to the exhibit during the coming year. Camp Fire USA- children K-5th grade Once a month programs presented to children enrolled in Camp Fire USA programs at River Road Elementary, Ridgecrest Elementary and Olsen Park Elementary Schools. Classes are usually held the last week of the month. Classes focus on self-esteem, peer pressure, bullying, decision making and communication. ADVO and Goodwill - physically and/or mentally disabled adults Classes focus on anatomy, reproduction, STDs, decision making, communication and human sexuality. Maverick Club and North YMCA - Middle school students Topics include: Teen Puberty; Teen Sexuality; Sexually Transmitted Diseases; HIV/AIDS; Teen Pregnancy; Sexuality & Respect; Responsible Manhood; Open Communication Between Parent & Child; Risky Behavior; Clinical Examinations; Responsible Decision Making; and Popularity & Peer Pressure. Wise Guys - at risk males10 -16, under Potter County Juvenile Probation supervision Male Responsibility Curriculum is designed to prevent adolescent pregnancy and STDs by teaching young males self-esteem life skills and responsible decision-making in several areas, primarily in the areas of human sexuality. The program acknowledges young males as "whole" individuals with a variety of needs and desires. Participatory lessons and activities focus on assisting them to ask questions: Who am I?; Where am I going?; and How do I get there? Wall Talk - Inmates Program trains inmates to be peer educators. They are taught basic information on STDs, HIV/AIDs and risk reduction. Then the peer educators hold classes for other inmates. The Education Committee serves to broaden the influence of PPATP on the sexual awareness issues affecting our community through education programs that ensure sexuality is understood as an essential lifelong aspect of being human. |
